<image:caption>2005 As a Caucasian American photographing in the streets of an ancient Indian city, I obviously stood out. People began approaching me and asking for "One photo, please". Photographs taken in India by foreigners can often highlight differences and serve to further distance cultures. These images were all initiated by the people in them who had a desire to communicate and collaborate in their production.    This photography essay is published in Lunch Volume IV Margin</image:caption>

<image:caption>2006 The famous Varanasi silk is not always produced in a centralized "factory" but instead the work is distributed amongst a network of individual craftsmen in the old city. In cricket fields, busy streets and one room workshops, the silk is woven, died, embroidered and prepared for sale. This photo essay explores the individuals and productions spaces that make up this network of production.</image:caption>
